South Africa holiday

Had the most brilliant holiday in Cape Town South Africa. The weather was devine and hot and sunny every day. All the black girls are wearing wigs & hairpieces even though it must be really expensive for them there. They mostly have the grotty jobs and many of them have no jobs at all. They fix each others hair and we saw them in the street, sitting out in the sun braiding hair and attaching hair extensions and trimming wigs.

They are not remotely self conscious about it. They have absolutely no inhibitions - so long as their hair looks good, they will spend their very last rand on it. I find that a very refreshing attitude!

I actually wore a childrens wig in a very light colour whilst I was there. I figured it would be hot and therefore the light colour and really snug fit would be most comfortable and it was. It is girl 2 wig in colour ref: FR25F. Here is a picture of me wearing it. Looks a bit weird as it was night and using a flash! But the wig is good +++

Pieces Parties!

Pieces Parties are going to happen as soon as I can organise the first one when I get back from South Africa. I leave today for 2 weeks blissful holiday and I am really excited.

I have all the girls who are going to model for my website already enthusiastic about the Pieces Parties and though the expectation will be that the guests will come and buy a wig, hairpiece or extensions, I do not expect that everyone will especially not at the first one. But it will be fun. Also, and crucially, it will spread the message that accessorising your hair does not have to be limited to scarves, ribbons, clips etc, you can wear pieces!

I am actually wearing a childrens wig now because I am off on holiday and this is the best size for me. I have a really small head and though I mainly wear the adult ones, as I am going to sunny climes, where blonde rules, I decided to wear this as it will be so comfortable.

Pieces Parties!

Pieces Parties!

Ok, this idea is now on it's own page on my website www.wearmyhair.com/PiecesParties.php. This idea is to create an opportunity for those who are not able or you are not keen on buying initially online. A kind of "try before you buy" concept but combining the fun of a social and networking event with trying on different styles and colours. Then buying safe in the knowledge that the wig, hairpiece or extensions is right for you.

The first Pieces Party will be planned over the next couple of months and will take place at my home in Cambridge. The first guests will be those young girls and their friends who have put themselves forward to be wig models for the new website images. It then struck me how "up for it", the whole hairpieces, wigs & extensions as accessories this age group really is. And yet they are often disadvantaged when it comes to buying from an internet shop such as wearmyhair.

If they are under 18 they will not have a credit card and may well not have a paypal account either, so it is difficult for them to buy online. I know this because I have had postal orders sent with orders online, and in fact created a page explaining how to buy for those in this situation.

The concept will be developed and may include other similar events depending on numbers and success, but it is hoped in the longer term to develop Pieces Parties further afield to include neighbouring counties such as Norfolk, Suffolk, Herts and Essex.

"Piece Parties" Promoting fashion wigs, hairpieces and extensions!

"Piece Parties"! I have had a new idea for promoting all my products, particularly among teens and early 20's! The name I have come up with is "Piece Parties", "piece' being hairpiece. Now some people call all hair substitutes hairpieces as it is a more pleasing word than wigs, which still has a certain naff conotation from the 70's maybe when wigs really were naff. But they so are not now! I wear them all the time and believe me, if they were naff, I would not wear them - EVER!

The idea of the "Piece Party" (the inverted commas will be dropped when the term is known and understood), is much like all the other selling/buying parties, I will invite people and their friends to come to my house to try on and buy hairpieces, wigs, extensions and accessories. The event will be light-hearted and fun with the expectation of sales but without the pressure. The target market is young girls really, and the idea popped into my head because I have found when looking for wig models, it is this group that is really, really up for it. Much more so than the slightly older ones. So, it maybe that my real market will grow with this age group coming up.

Time to get to work then! After my holiday, we shall be doing the photo shoot to change the website www.wearmyhair.com
images from mannequins to real live models. We will be doing this initially for all the womens wigs. I already have about 6 girls who are willing to be models and their parents have agreed to sign the necessary permissions if they are under 18, and they will form the initial guests at the grand inaugural "Piece Party". They will, of course, be encouraged to invite their friends and I will lay on some light refreshments and depending on how the first event goes, plan more and later on, further afield.

It may be sensible, when going further afield to team other with other party organisers. There are lots of party events - Ann Summers, Avon, Shoes, and they all fit well with all other fashion and well-being concepts.

Wigs in Cambridge

There was a bit of confusion yesterday as a lady turned up at my house asking "Is this the wig shop"? I replied that the address is correct but strictly speaking the shop is an internet one and there is no actual shop at my Gilbert Road address. That said, all the stock is held there and it is certainly where I do the consultations but you do need to ring first for an appointment. The consultations are free and you can buy any of the wigs, hairpieces, extensions or accessories from my home or from the website.

The lady came from Saffron Walden and she was wanting a wig. She googled 'wigs Cambridge' and she got my address but did not find the website. That is very strange. www.wearmyhair.com for wigs, hairpieces, extensions & accessories, Cambridge, UK.

Clip-in Hair Extensions selling well!

I am delighted to say that the brightly coloured clip-in extensions are selling really well! I had thought that as so many people use hair extensions to bulk out or add length, layers etc to their own hair, perhaps the brightly coloured ones wouldn't do so well. Wrong! they are flying out.!!

It goes to show that there is really a place for everything. Maybe the pictures of me wearing about 4 colours of clip-in hair extensions for a Christmas Party helped people to see how they too might use them to accessorize their own hair or, indeed, as I do, a wig!

Hairpieces too, are a good way of bulking up or lengthening your own hair, the most obvious disadvantages being that you need to match as closely as possible with your real hair if you want it to look like all your own hair. Not so with a wig. The great advantage with a wig is you really can go different. A whole new colour, blonde, red, black, whatever you've never been, you can "suck it and see" with a wig! And, of course, it isn't just a one off for a day or two post salon visit, you simply put it on and take it off and wear it again and again whenever you want. Not much in favour am I? What's not to like, I say!

Go for the hair you want, not what you were born with!

How often do you hear your friends and family, well, particularly the females among them, complaining about their hair? For me it's loads and loads. It's everything, too thin, too thick, too curly, too straight, too fine, too frizzy, the list is endless. I even know people who constantly wear their hair scraped back and tied up to keep it out of sight, all day every day.

I do not understand why in this day and age, they do not simply wear a wig. They are so good, so easy, so cheap in comparison to the freedom they bring and the cost of hair salons, which for the most part can only give you a very temporary fix. And, black girls do it all the time and look fab in their wigs and weaves and extensions, they look really briliant.
